Ba’: H’Manya Magiyoda Youth Council

The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Youth Council is a community youth leadership development program designed to foster the physical, social, mental and cultural development of each member. The Youth Council is funded by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and was established by resolution number 93-30, dated march 15, 1993. The Youth Council is also an established affiliate of the United National Indian Tribal Youth (Unity inc.) Network – www.unityinc.org.

Yavapai Youth LeadersCouncil Objectives

As stated in our bylaws, the objectives of this group shall be:

  • To provide a collective voice and represent the tribal youth in all matters that concern them
  • To serve as a means of mobilizing and coordinating the actions of youth, other community members and organizations towards positive goals
  • To promote the development of future tribal leaders
  • To help solve the problems facing tribal youth
  • To coordinate community service projects
  • To provide opportunities for the youth to interact for fun and fellowship

Meetings

The Youth Council is governed by seven elected youth officers. Youth Council members must be Native American youth residing within the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, youth of Fort McDowell employees and youth of non-community members living on Fort McDowell reservation. An age limit of 14-24 years old is set for the officers and Unity requirements, but there is no age requirement for youth who are interested in attending youth council activities and events.

Activities & Events

UNITY Fire PitOur activities and events include:

  • Weekly Youth Council meetings – Mondays, 6:00pm in the medium multi-purpose room at the Parks & Rec Center
  • Monthly officer meetings
  • Recreational and social activities
  • Cultural events
  • Educational activities.
Council members and officers actively participate in the planning and implementing of our events and activities. The Youth Council Coordinator facilitates and supervises all activities and events.
